New Year’s Resolutions- Tips to get your pet in shape!

New Years Resolution - With your Pet

It’s a new year! The perfect time for setting goals and intentions for the upcoming year. As you think of your own New Year’s Resolutions, be sure to include a few for your four-legged friends as well.

Watch their weight. Pet obesity is a major problem with over  50% of pets in the U.S. classified as overweight. Correctly measuring your pet’s food is one of the easiest solutions to help them shed excess weight. (Video Pet Obesity in the United States.)

Exercise together. Exercise is very important when it comes to keeping your pet in shape. Is your New Year resolution to Hike more? Grab the leash or even a kitty backpack and take your four-legged buddies out on an adventure with you.  Plus, it’s a great time to bond with your pets and you’ll reap the rewards of physical activity too! (Dog Friendly Hiking Trails.)

Play brain games. Boredom in pets can lead to behavior issues, so be sure you keep your pets mentally stimulated. Teach your dog a new trick or play a game with your cat that encourages them to use their smarts. Having toys and games around the house that your pets have to work for can keep your pet on the ball and out of mischief. (10 brain games to play with your dog.)

These resolutions will  benefit your pet and strengthen the bond you have with your furry loved ones.  A healthy pet is a happy pet!!
